Scholarships4Girls – January 2014 Update

Providing Scholarships to Disadvantaged Turkish Girls.

Derya1

Thanks to your generous support and dedication, 2013 has been a remarkable year for the Bridge to Türkiye Fund’s (BTF) Girls’ Empowerment Scholarships Program.  In its fourth year, we are excited to announce that we grew the scholarship program from 27 to 80 academically gifted and economically disadvantaged girls in rural communities in Turkey.

We exceeded our 2013 goal to support 50 girls and are proud to announce that we provided more than $36,000 in scholarships to 82 girls – truly an amazing achievement! In 2014, we plan to sponsor 100 girls and need your continued support!

According to the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative, while Turkey has made significant progress in reducing the number of out-of-school girls in the past few years, large numbers continue to dropout in high school. For many of these girls, education ends prematurely due to poverty. Therefore, these scholarships are vital to keeping girls in school.

To tackle the challenge of girls dropping out in high school, we expanded the program’s focus to support high school and college students while we maintain support for our existing primary school students. Now that the gender gap has been closing in primary schools, all new BTF scholars will be from high schools and universities to enable more girls to continue their education, contribute to their communities and rise out of poverty. To ensure we access scholars most in need, we continue to collaborate with our trusted partner in Turkey, the Association for Supporting Contemporary Life (Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği-CYDD).

We believe that every girl deserves the best possible chance at achieving their goals, but they cannot do it alone and need our support. This is why BTF has made helping children and promoting gender equality in Turkey through educational scholarships a priority. With your generous support, we are working towards bridging the gender gap in Turkey by helping women and girls achieve full potential and participation in every aspect of society.

Over the past three years, we have been amazed at how quickly the BTF’s Girls’ Empowerment Scholarship Program has grown, and what an incredible impact it has made in rural Turkey. We believe that the best is yet to come and we have big plans.

In 2014, we plan to expand the scholarship program to support 100 deserving young women and girls to enable their education so that they can be productive members of their communities and rise out of poverty.

With your support, there are no limits to what we can achieve together to promote gender equality and educating girls. As we expand our program to support more girls in 2014, we will need your help more than ever. There is no better time than now to lend your support.

We cannot do this important work without you! Please sponsor a student and help her rise out of poverty and give her hope for a better future by visiting: Light the Path to Education.

About

Bridge to Türkiye Fund (BTF) was established in 2003 by community minded Turkish Americans (Turks4Good) driven to make a difference, to improve life and to cultivate social change for the common good. Our circle of compassion promotes respect and fellowship for humankind in the communities we serve. Turks4Good commitment to these ideals stems from our basic desire to give back to our native land for the many opportunities we have gained from her. We invite you to also contribute to the welfare of less fortunate children in Turkey.
