Behind every BTF Impact Scholar is a story of strong academic roots and determination. Today, we share Utku Günay’s story. Utku is a junior at Bentley University in Massachusetts pursuing a B.S. in Economics and Finance, with minors in Supply Chain Management and Business Management. As an undergraduate, Utku is maintaining high academic performance, consistently appearing on the Dean’s List while combining his major and minor with a multidisciplinary background. Utku’s story exemplifies the main goal of the BTF Impact Scholarship program: to serve as the bridge that connects brilliant ideas with philanthropic resources.

Utku is originally from Antalya but was raised in the States. His diverse background, with roots in Türkiye, and growing up between two cultures, fuels his enthusiasm to understand how economic systems can promote equity and opportunity. Utku has always been interested in how value is created, both in numbers and in practice. Finance gives him the discipline to measure and plan, while supply chain shows how ideas actually turn into reality. He shares that; ‘’What truly inspired me to choose this path wasn’t just curiosity, it was growing up between two cultures, seeing both abundance and struggle up close.’’ Utku continued, ‘’On one side, I was raised in Miami, surrounded by ambition and opportunity. On the other, my roots in Türkiye showed me how uneven access to resources can hold entire communities back. That contrast made me want to understand systems; how money flows, how products move, and why some ideas change lives while others never leave the start phase. ‘’ For Utku, economics and finance are more than just theories; they are tools to build and grow businesses that not only look impressive but also function effectively, support the community they serve, and encourage meaningful change.
The Bridge to Türkiye Fund was founded as a heartfelt initiative driven by a genuine commitment to empowering young minds and giving back to Türkiye. Over the past twenty years, this inspiring journey has changed countless lives, including Utku’s. According to Utku, the BTF Impact Scholarship represents opportunity, but also responsibility. He doesn’t see it just as funding but as a strong reminder and a vote of confidence in his potential. He shares that: ‘’That trust motivates me every day. On a personal level, it has also shown me what it feels like to be supported during a crucial time. That’s something I want to give back to others one day, especially students who don’t have access to the same resources.”
Throughout his time as a BTF Impact Scholarship recipient, Utku sought every opportunity to grow both inside and outside of the classroom. He has been involved in several leadership initiatives at Bentley, including being a member of the Bentley Entrepreneurship Society. He was also selected as one of the members in the prestigious NAIOP, Commercial Real Estate Development Association’s initiative in Boston, which has allowed him to attend seminars and connect with leaders in real estate development. Utku demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable development and community service by founding and leading the Turkish Youth Awareness Association, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support students in rural schools across Türkiye. Regarding this initiative, he oversaw annual donations, allocating resources toward books, computers, and library construction. These leadership roles sharpened his ability to lead with empathy, foster solidarity across Türkiye, and inspire collective action—qualities that Bridge to Türkiye would define.
Receiving the BTF Impact Scholarship critically transformed Utku’s educational journey. ‘’This scholarship gave me the freedom to focus on learning, not just surviving,’’ he shares. Reflecting on his journey, Utku encourages students interested in applying for the BTF Impact Scholarship to reach out, share their stories, and demonstrate their dedication to education. Through his academic accomplishments in economics and finance, Utku proudly carries on the Bridge to Türkiye Fund’s legacy of education by promoting sustainable development and inclusive volunteer efforts. His story highlights how the BTF Impact Scholarship motivates students to turn academic knowledge and practical experience into meaningful change.
