Across Oceans: Hope from Seattle to Hatay
Separated by thousands of miles, five high school students in Seattle (Ali, Defne, Emre, Ezgi, and Öykü) recognized that students in Hatay deserved the same basic opportunity they had every day: access to clean drinking water.
Motivated to make a difference, the students organized three major fundraising and awareness events, raising enough to install water stations in seven schools across Hatay, providing 2,717 students with safe drinking water.
To make this possible, the youth organized three activities to raise awareness and critical funds:
- A walk at Green Lake Park
- A visit with the Seattle Turks soccer team
- A presentation at the Republic Ball
Bringing Clean Water to Hatay
In partnership with TOKTUT Derneği, school-type water filters have been installed in schools across Hatay. These filters provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to meet students’ daily drinking water needs.
In disaster situations, access to clean water sources becomes severely limited. Without purification, children relying on tap water in schools face serious health risks. By introducing water filters, this project not only ensures safe drinking water today but also builds resilience for the future, protecting the health and well-being of students in vulnerable communities.
School-type water filtration systems were specially designed by experts to meet the specific water needs of schools in the earthquake-affected region.
Following installation, comprehensive water quality tests were conducted, and the systems were officially certified for use. This rigorous process ensured that students have access to safe, reliable drinking water that meets health and safety standards.

A Sustainable Solution for the Future
By providing school-type water filters, the initiative reduces reliance on single-use plastic bottles, creating a lasting positive environmental impact.
Seven school-type water filters produce approximately 630 tons of safe drinking water and help prevent nearly 19 tons of plastic waste from entering the environment.
The initiative also builds environmental awareness among children from an early age.
